On 20th April 2023 we were crowned as having the ‘Best Cask Beer in the South West’!
We honestly can’t believe it, we have always attended the SIBA awards not just for entering beers but to have a good day out also! This year however was slightly different.
Just a bit of background, “SIBA Southwest” is the regional division of the Society of Independent Brewers, which represents independent craft breweries in the UK. The MaltingsFest is an annual beer festival that celebrates the best beers from the South West region.
The overall winner is the main events at the MaltingsFest, with the winning beers from each category (Square Logic won Session Pale) judged again to determine the overall winner of the cask beer competition. The competition includes multiple categories, including pale ales, bitters, stouts, porters, and IPAs in cask form. This prestigious award recognises the best cask beer in the Southwest and is highly regarded by breweries in the UK.
For those yet to try our Square Logic it is a bold and complex pale ale that is packed full of Cascade, Mosaic and Citra, resulting in tropical fruit notes of mango, pineapple, and passion fruit, along with hints of citrus and pine. These fruity and floral aromas are then balanced with a subtle malty sweetness and a touch of spiciness. While on the palate, Square Logic delivers a robust and flavorful hop character with an assertive bitterness that is softened by a smooth and creamy mouthfeel, making us thirsty just talking about it.
It was an amazing feeling to win and we are seriously over the moon. Winning the overall cask beer competition is a significant achievement for any brewery, especially us here at Eight Arch.
Although, we know we would not be where we are today and in a position to win an award like this without the support of our customers, so we just wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you.
